Venus rising
Image from V Starr Interiors
Congratulations Venus Williams on winning Wimbledon!!!! Looks like you won't be turning up for full time work at V Starr Interiors just quite yet. I hear fashion school is an option too.

Gotta love Saturday!
Just bought these little beauties for $40 AUS for the 4. Thats about $34 US. Shame that they weren't all the same but at $10 AUS a chair who cares. A local designer was having a showroom sale and these were buried down the back. Brought them out into the light and they were mine. Now I just have to get them home. Thinking lacquered chartreuse with patterned navy and white cushions. Three for my patio area in the courtyard and one in the bathroom maybe. Also scored 10 metres of outdoor UV resistant upholstery in a thin navy stripe on the roll for $200 and he threw in a lovely jade and bone calligraphy brush for $10. I love Saturdays.

Reader's home

I first had a glimpse into lottie pan's lovely home 5 months ago when I was searching through Flickr. It was this teak platter that introduced me to her style. To my surprise she popped up in the comments section and I was drawn back to her maison set. I love this London flat and all lottie pan's great finds. See more of her great photos here. Thanks Charlotte for letting me share your home. I just had to show off your place!

A killer girly pad

I'd like to introduce you to a decadent apartment in Notting Hill, London, where pink is key and it's all about femininity. No boys allowed.

Paul Lavoie

Masculine, dark, lush, layered. Paul Lavoie's elegant rooms are beautiful examples of the importance of layering to achieve that luxe look. Sophisticated night time spaces. Opulent men's club vibe.

William McIntosh
Tailored, elegant, refined. Bold, modern, sleek and textural. A few key words for the work of New York designer William McIntosh. Meticulous attention to detail and execution is obvious in these sophisticated spaces.

Art...by Jo
Since Jo is just heading off to work I thought I'd take this opportunity to plug her gorgeous artwork (since she won't be able to check the blog for HOURS). She sent me a package back in April and having FINALLY received it yesterday, it included 4 pieces of art that she drew. They are so amazing and I am so proud of her that I had to post them. I think I may have convinced her to open an Etsy shop so please feel free to leave comments and maybe she'll realize she REALLY REALLY should sell her art. (Sorry about the quality of the photos, it's raining here so I can't get good light).

Turquoise

Sometimes you've known and admired someone's work for a long time that you take it for granted. I spend hours each week searching for names and portfolios to feature here. Sometimes I need to remember the obvious. Vanessa De Vargas is known to many of you. She is a talented L.A. based interior designer, high end vintage furniture store owner and writes her own blog Turquoise and for Apartment Therapy Los Angeles. Here are some of my favourites from her portfolio including new rooms. Love her work!

Owen and Vokes
Paul Owen and Stuart Vokes are award winning Brisbane architects. They explore the interaction between internal and external space creating outdoor “rooms” that push the boundaries of a home beyond its four walls, playing with the ideas of enclosure and comfort. There is a preference for making plain buildings with humble materials. I’ve included a few of their indoor spaces showcasing the simple, Zen like feel of these family homes. Don’t be fooled though. Space is cunningly carved up to be as useful as possible and economical building materials ensure that these ideas are easily accessible to all.(Don't forget to click on the images to view them larger.)

Just spell it out
I am a shoes-off-in-my-house kind of person. I don't know where your shoes have been...if you have a rock stuck in the treads and are going to scratch up my floors, or if you didn't notice the neighbour's dog's little treat he left on the lawn that you managed to step in. If you're embarassed to ask for shoes to be removed, then why not spell it out for people? (I'm not that anal about it, really, but I thought this was really cheeky).

P.S. My stones and wood garden ties just arrived from Rona. Let the landscaping begin!

Coddington Design

Melanie Coddington and her team create refined, elegant spaces. Strong silhouettes and sophisticated use of colour are key to the rooms success. She loves to mix finishes in a room to avoid that matchy matchy vibe and concentrates on quality of materials and timeless pieces. These rooms are serene but definitely not simple. Luxe living by Coddington Designs.
