This blog was started so that we could share our favourite inspirational design photos with you, and we would like to give you the opportunity to share yours with us as well. This is what we need you to do. We welcome links to great design sites or photos, but links are preferred so our inboxes don't fill up. If sending photos, please clearly state the name of your source whether magazine (and date if you have it), book (include author’s name and publisher) or website. Also please include your name so we can give you the credit, and a link to your site if you have one. The more information we have the more valuable this resource will become. There that was easy wasn’t it? Please remember that we cannot post if your photo is not adequately sourced. Now let’s have fun!

Outdoor spaces

I am still itching to get out and do some gardening but my fence and deck have yet to be built (any day now). So I am getting my fix through beautiful photos such as these...

Domane

Domane is a London based interior design and bespoke furniture company founded by Aiden Garrity. Jeremy Banks left a comment on the Daniele Perna post about Domane and I just had to check it out. Beautiful craftsmanship and attention to detail and great ideas. Their product is highly functional and looks fantastic. Thanks for sharing Jeremy!

J Pritchard Design

Texan Jennifer Pritchard creates these eerily organic porcelain wall installations and tiles. The richness of the glaze, the texture, the pattern all lure you into a closer look. Lose yourself in the convolutions of her crazy repetitive over and over art.

Sills Huniford

Sills Huniford Associates is based in New York, and strives to create modern interiors using furniture from many eras. I am adoringly drawn to the oversized artwork used throughout their designs, particularly the simple black circle on white (I am trying to figure out where I can replicate this in my home), and the framed chalkboard (unless it's an art piece, then imagine it as a chalkboard - the versatility of it).

Serene

A simple 1960's apartment with modest sized rooms and low ceilings. Normally nothing to get excited about unless renovated by Melbourne's Nexus Design. Serene, sophisticated, filled with classic furniture, an enviable Australian Impressionist art collection and a referential colour palette. Small scale living on a large scale style. Inspiring. See the original post on Nexus Designs here.

Welcome to Greg's home!

Hi Jo,
This is my own apartment where I live. I wanted to show you this because it shows our versatility as designers. We are known for doing spaces with print and colour so this space shows another look, its dark, moody and sexy. With my own space I wanted to express a very personal response which makes this space original as only I own these experiences. I hope you know what I mean. I drew on my Italian/Australian background, basically I was pushing “wog chic"! The baroque chair is from the family home and the chandelier and bed head are pieces that I saw in my uncles houses in the 80s. At the time I thought they where the height of utter revoltingness but now appreciate their beauty and kitschness. I love the irony of turning something that I thought was ugly into some beautiful. This adds another dimension to a room. I wanted this space to be a place where I came home at the end of the day and feel fantastic and when I go to bed to FEEL LIKE Joan Collins snuggling up in my fur bedspread. We all work hard and we deserve to feel extraordinary. Anyway I hope you like this project, there is more to come!

My new room needs some stuff and things

My new "library" has been painted, and furniture placed after about 6 tries and some lovely post trauma bruising and a hunk of skin now missing off my big toe after I dropped the bookcase on it. So here it is:

Here's the thing. I have spent the last 3 nights (actually and all day Monday because I have Mondays off for the summer, lucky me) looking for funky retro posters for my new room. Can't really find anything that makes me want to whip out my credit card. The following are some I have found that I kind of like, although I'd prefer a couple large pieces rather than a bunch of smaller ones. Unless I buy some picture shelves and just lean 'em...

If I'm not mistaken Pink already bought the second one. :) So if anyone has any ideas - please leave comments. Share your favourite art resources.

Gothic madness

This loft deserves a huge OMG. OK, several OMG's. This loft is located in East London and on this locations website, the description reads simply "3rd floor loft with distinctive decor". Distinctive? Uh....YEAH. Check out all the religious art (Jo's fav) used to decorate this over-the-top gothic space.

Sera of London - Part II

A while back, Jo did a post about Sera of London, and I happened upon her website recently and was just blown away by all the OTT, glamorous, exotic spaces Madame Sera has designed. So dreamy, so movie-star, so bordello fabulous. I just had to post some more photos.

The little stairs that could ... or how to travel the world without leaving home

Image from Vogue Living Australia Before+After Autumn/Winter special issue 2007.

This by now familiar image has travelled the blogosphere in 4 short weeks. We knew were it had been because it left a trail through Technorati as it was linked back to us. We laughed as it spread out further and further. But we only knew where it had been if our fellow bloggers who used it actually linked us as the source. You see the image is a scan from a print medium. Read the original post here to see. The magazine is cited and the manufacturer is in the comments. We know this is our image because I scanned it and there is no web link to it except my post.

So off our little friend went. Good friends blogged it and cited the source as desire to inspire but the blogosphere is like a giant chinese whisper and finally our little staircase was cut adrift. We had no idea where it had gone until we found this linked back to us on Technorati. Now we know where staircase has been thanks to Sean! This post alerted us to how our staircase had travelled like a ripple into the blogosphere. When he found out where the image actually came from he posted this reply. Thanks for following the breadcrumbs Sean and sending staircase back to us.

And the moral of this story. Always cite your sources and do a little detective work to find out where the image came from originally. Unfortunately staircase doesn't have a website but he does have an origin. Welcome to all those people who found their way to us because of this picture. Off you go again staircase. We'll see where you end up this time.

P.S. You may have noticed that Kim and I haven't scanned any images lately. All pictures are sourced from websites. A lot more work but worth it. We spend hours and hours each week finding these images for our readers and we love it!

Knú: sustainable contemporary furniture

Jerome of Industrial Woodworking Corp emailed to tell us about Knú, their new line of eco-friendly home office furniture that will be available only online beginning September 1. Knú furniture - by designer Bradford Davis - is produced from sustainably harvested wood products, assembled with 40% recycled post-consumer waste stainless steel hardware and is manufactured in an energy efficient facility that recently went 100% carbon neutral. They call it "Inanimate motion in crisp, sustainable form". I call it gorgeous. I adore the narrow curved legs...and that wood...

Found this on the Dwell site and had to post it. Has all sorts of my favourite things - a cat, lots of white, and cool architecture.

Fabulously glam

This apartment in Rome, Italy, designed by Jeff Andrews is so incredible that I had designate a post solely to this glamorous space.

"Crystal chandeliers, fur throws, smoked-glass mirrors, plasma-screen TVs, bars in the living room, bedroom, and kitchen ... this is a luxury-loving bachelor's dream home."
Elle Decoration

(Is it just me or does this space have ERIC written all over it ;) )

Jeff Andrews, design genius

Jeff Andrews has made it to my list of top 5 designers of all time. His designs are bold and cutting-edge but somehow just enough to suit all tastes. He uses a perfect amount of colour, and a perfect mix of modern and vintage. It's PERFECTION, plain and simple. I could have started and ended with that one word. It says it all. There is so much to love about Jeff's designs, that I'll be doing another post later today of a space he designed that is absolutely spectacular. So make sure to check back later.
