This blog was started so that we could share our favourite inspirational design photos with you, and we would like to give you the opportunity to share yours with us as well. This is what we need you to do. We welcome links to great design sites or photos, but links are preferred so our inboxes don't fill up. If sending photos, please clearly state the name of your source whether magazine (and date if you have it), book (include author’s name and publisher) or website. Also please include your name so we can give you the credit, and a link to your site if you have one. The more information we have the more valuable this resource will become. There that was easy wasn’t it? Please remember that we cannot post if your photo is not adequately sourced. Now let’s have fun!

A photo for Jo

Jo would kill me if she woke up to find a hockey post as the first thing people see when they view the blog. So here Jo, this one's for you.

Some hockey love

The Ottawa Senators, as I mentionned earlier, just kicked some Buffalo ass and won the game, putting them in the Stanley Cup playoffs! WOHOOOOOOOOO!!!
(Sorry folks, this has nothing to do with design, but had to show some love because I have lived here my entire life and this has NEVER HAPPENED! It's insanity here...I have all the windows open and all you can hear is screaming and honking. This is partly due to the fact that I live 5 mins from the stadium.)

Outdoor Space

It is an absolutely gorgeous day here in Ottawa (and the hockey game is starting as I type this, where the Senators are going to kick some Sabres ass). I bought the latest issue of Wish magazine and in one feature they had decorated a patio and deck in South Hampton style. Me likey. Wish I had a yard this nice to hang out in on a day like today.

Design2Share

Brad sent us a link to Design2Share. This new site offers weekly a video podcast series that takes a good stab at answering viewers' design-related questions. The two co-hosts, South African born designer Irwin Weiner and British born designer Nicola Chernicoff have covered topics such as how to get a great look and how to set a great table. Looking forward to their "Where you live" posts which should be coming soon. In the meantime here are a few of Irwin's sophisticated rooms.

Test stay in Paris

I received an email from Jenice Hartmann from ucinteriors today that I found very intriguing...

"On ucinteriors.com, people can upload photos of their flat, comment on the photos of other members, discuss whatever they might be having problems with in their flat or post articles on topics like "living abroad" or "do it yourself". Until June 4 we are having a special offer for our users: we provide an apartment in Paris so that people can spend a few days here and test the Parisian living standard! Everybody can apply and live in the apartment for free for up to four days. If that sounds interesting to you, you are welcome to visit our website."

So what are you waiting for? Get yourself to Paris!

Home Portfolio

Home Portfolio is a brilliant website that, as the name suggests, lets you create and save portfolios of products for your home. "HomePortfolio has spent eight years bringing together the best home design ideas, brands, products, and retailers (700,000 products, 100,000 retailers, and 1,700 manufacturer brands), all in one place". So it's like one-stop shopping. They also have some photos of rooms to inspire, and here's a few.

Saunders Architecture

Ashley sent us a great link to Saunders Architecture a firm owned by Canadian Todd Saunders who has lived and worked in Norway since 1997. The work combines a Nordic design sensibility with environmental concerns. The summer house Ashley wants to share came about this way ...... "When we first started our firm, instead of looking for clients we went looking for plots, to build an experimental structure. Doing this, we could pursue our architectural vision in line with our convictions: uncompromising, original and respect for the landscape." Check out the other amazing projects on their website especially the Aurland Lookout. Thanks Ashley!

Anne Coyle

Anne Coyle favours symmetry and classicism. Her whimsical use of colour is refreshing and elegant. Lavenders, celadon, coral and hot pinks make her rooms no cookie cutter spaces. For a long time her website teased us with just a few images. Now it's been updated to reveal her inspiring talent.

Can I live here please?

This apartment by Messana O'Rorke combines loft space and the renovation of of an existing sprinkler tank house into an urban retreat. A spiral staircase leads to the roof top terrace and THAT tank house. Love it all. So want to live here!

Venetian mirrors

Mirrors are fabulous...particularly glamorous venetian mirrors. Mirrors are perfect to use in a small space to make it appear larger...and venetian mirrors also can add an extra bit of glamour with their ornate detail. They are suitable in any room, over a bathroom sink, over a bed, over a dining room buffet, in a hallway...
