This blog was started so that we could share our favourite inspirational design photos with you, and we would like to give you the opportunity to share yours with us as well. This is what we need you to do. We welcome links to great design sites or photos, but links are preferred so our inboxes don't fill up. If sending photos, please clearly state the name of your source whether magazine (and date if you have it), book (include author’s name and publisher) or website. Also please include your name so we can give you the credit, and a link to your site if you have one. The more information we have the more valuable this resource will become. There that was easy wasn’t it? Please remember that we cannot post if your photo is not adequately sourced. Now let’s have fun!

Design from Stockholm

Jenny Oldsjö is one half of Oldsjö Hultgren Design along with Ragnar Hultgren. She just sent us a link to their fabulous portfolio. Their website says "Design to us is the connection between concept, function, material, and aesthetics. In every project we offer the client tailor-made solutions. Our goal is to interpret the clients' visions and together take them one step further." I love tessellations and these products are just amazing. Clever, beautiful and a touch of fun. Pattern power! Thanks Jenny for sharing these with us. I'm mesmerised.

Red dining rooms

Couldn't help but notice how many photos I had of dining rooms where the primary colour was red. Perhaps red is used so often in kitchens and dining rooms because it is said to stimulate the appetite. I don't usually need help stimulating my appetite (LOL) but this may help someone who's cooking is terrible.

re:place

The team behind re:place believe their clients are more creative than they believe and the design team help bring those ideas out. They create their client's style not their own. A holistic approach is important and the Eastern design principles of Vastu and Feng Shui are integral to each design. They also use recycled, found, natural and environmentally friendly materials in their projects. Beautiful and aware, great combination.

Galanes Haverland

Philip Galanes was an entertainment lawyer, Chief Operating Officer for a children's media company, and is now an author, avid furniture collector and consults on interior design projects. After looking at his portfolio, I think he has finally found his calling.

Eames Lounge

Charles Eames said his goal for the lounge chair was the "warm, receptive look of a well-used first baseman's mitt." I can immediately associate one word with this chair - SIGH. I've never sat in one of these, real or imitation, and I probably shouldn't. But I don't think I could ever spend that much money on a chair. And I don't think cat nails would go so well with the leather. But I lust after it regardless. After all, cats don't even like leather right?

Brace Design

Paul Brace was named as one of Australia's emerging designers. With a swath of awards, magazine articles and a Taschen book cover he's not emerging he's a leading light of the Australian design scene. His small space solutions are definitely worth a much closer look on his website. Check out the mirror used through the doorway and as a splash back and cupboard doors in the first apartment below.

The Trunk

Hello Kim,

I'm sending pictures of a new product, which is hand-made in Europe by Malafor Small Laboratory of Forms. They are available exclusively through our company from April 2007. Those logs can be used as seating logs, as side tables or pair them together and then use them as a great coffee table. Right now I have a promotional sale.

Fondly,
Gosia I. Korsakowski

Thanks Gosia. These are amazing. I'd love to see them in a minimalist woodland room or at the other extreme a pimped Louis XVI chair in black shiny vinyl, a clash of chrome and gilt accessories and these as occasional tables. Swing a aventurine murano glass chandelier over the top and start layering the clashing black and white patterns. What about you Kim? What's your room going to look like?

PS Kim is on the way to work and loved these so much she emailed me to post them. Gosia can be contacted at bluebellgk{at}yahoo{dot}com

Stairs and storage

Image from from Vogue Living Australia.
What a great idea. If you’re having some stairs constructed why not consider this. Handy and hidden, a great storage idea for linen, winter woollies, books and papers, anything small in fact.

P.S. These amazing stairs have travelled all over the blogosphere in a few short weeks. This is a scanned image from the Vogue Living Australia Before+After Autumn/Winter 2007 issue. The true originator of this staircase, the joinery company is named in the comments. If you're in Australia and want one of these then google their name and their address and phone number are yours.

Outdoor rooms

Whether it's a patio or a courtyard, a veranda or a cabana, a balcony or deck, a loggia or just a patch of grass extend your living area outside. Go alfresco with these ideas and reclaim that porch.

I love this apartment

The latest Australian Vogue Living features Antony Todd's New York apartment. We've had a sneak peek at Antony's apartment before when we featured his interiors in an earlier post. Sexy and sophisticated but with a casual elegance. You could curl up on the bed or wander barefoot through the salon and feel at home. Love this apartment.

Kevin Haley

"I want to create spaces of tranquility - sanctuaries, places where people feel safe so they can create and be at their best."

I found the website of Kevin Haley and was awestruck. His style is totally up my alley, modern and eclectic. He must be good...he's designed residences for Cameron Diaz, Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio. (He won me over with the pug photo).

Patterns

I will admit, I am a SERIOUS patternmaniaphile. Ok, I just made that term up. Definition = someone totally obsessed with patterns. I could sit here and look at pictures of patterned wallpaper and fabrics all day. I think mixing patterns is practically an art form...and very easy to overdo or get it wrong. Here are some examples of it done right.

If you're afraid of wallpaper, simply try some patterned accessories...like these.

Stepevi

In Istanbul in 1919 a carpet manufacturing company called Step was created, and with it's success came Stepevi. They combine Turkish rug-making techniques with new technology to create rugs that are luxurious and contemporary. Their shag is the most beautiful shag I've ever seen.
