This blog was started so that we could share our favourite inspirational design photos with you, and we would like to give you the opportunity to share yours with us as well. This is what we need you to do. We welcome links to great design sites or photos, but links are preferred so our inboxes don't fill up. If sending photos, please clearly state the name of your source whether magazine (and date if you have it), book (include author’s name and publisher) or website. Also please include your name so we can give you the credit, and a link to your site if you have one. The more information we have the more valuable this resource will become. There that was easy wasn’t it? Please remember that we cannot post if your photo is not adequately sourced. Now let’s have fun!

Off to bed again

More ideas to help you have sweat dreams. Most of you will be reading this while I am fast asleep. Strange how people on the other side of the world share these images with me. But fun!

Gasp!

Stop what you're doing. Go here now and scroll along. See the whole space. Breathtaking! This stunning art space is by Paris born muralist Cyprien Chabert as seen on the Andrea Crews website. I cannot do justice to this artwork in our format here. Go, what are you waiting for?

When women wore pearls

I love Plan59 the museum (and gift shop) of mid century illustration. 50s images of cars, trucks, old ads and DECOR! They have an online art store where great retro prints can be ordered. It's a fabulous fun look back to when cars had fins and wives wore pearls when preparing the family meal. Miss the fins but not the "perfect wife" image.

...and have a LOVELY DAY

Photo from Flickr

Since this appears to be a good day to get out our frustrations (Pink Mohair agrees so go read this), I would just like to thank my neighbour Sandy, with whom we share many walls with, for the lovely musical interlude from her stereo at 4 AM. Not sure why she thinks we don't play enough of our own music (quietly BY THE WAY) and need to hear hers AT 4 AM EVERY DAY FOR THE PAST 2 WEEKS. This is the same woman who came by one night at 9:30 to let us know that my boyfriend's music was keeping her up and can we rearrange the furniture in his computer room so as not to disturb her. This morning it was an especially LOUD display of bass coming through the walls....which I will gladly reciprocate this evening with the bassiest movie I can find when I play it on our surround sound speakers at an extraordinarily high volume, and at bass +10. So cheers Sandy, and have a LOVELY DAY!!!!

My most favourite red room

Image from Burnham Design

I love this room. The red, the mix of patterns, styles, textures. The layering is amazing, the room so lush. If you have a little time this long weekend then spend a little savouring the beauty of Betsy Burnham's amazing rooms. Even if you've been there before, it's worth another look . Beautiful! Inspiring!

Easter time!

Image from Inside Out

Only 2 more sleeps until the Easter Bunny! Kim and I will be dropping in randomly over the holidays to post so drop back and check. I hope you enjoy the holidays and for those of you in parts of the world where you are not in holiday mode, don't fear we'll have a few posts for you. Don't forget to indulge in warm toasty hot cross buns today. A hot cup of coffee, some cool mood music and take a browse through our archives.

Happy Easter

Jeff Koons, Rabbit, 1986

Just wanted to wish everyone a Happy Easter and may you enjoy all the chocolate you can get your hands on without puking. Also, let's all hope that Jo can be reunited with her lost parrot, Cookie. :(

I would live here

This home was featured in Elle Decor magazine. It is so fabulous, with must-have mid-century furniture, gorgeous colour palette and eye-catching artwork.

Élitis

Élitis is a French company that carries fabric, wallcoverings and furniture. Their style is very modern and graphic, and I adore the patterns, textures and colours they offer.

I want to be here

I would give anything to be sitting in this spa with a bitingly cold champagne and all the time in the world to watch the view. Amazing work by Marsh Cashman Koolloos.

Is it 8 o'clock yet?

Just thought I'd post a somewhat strange photo while killing time waiting for Top Model to come on.

The art in words

I love bold artwork - and using words as art is a great way of making a statement. It's an in-your-face approach of getting a message across or just a fun way to decorate a wall. Whatever the motive, here are some ideas of how to use words (or text) as art.

Spacecraft

Stewart Russell relocated from London to Melbourne, Australia after perfecting his textile design and production skills in Sri Lanka, Scotland and London designing for the likes of Vivienne Westwood. At Spacecraft he and long term collaborator Donna O'Brien develop contemporary textile designs for use in Spacecraft's fashion line as well as linens and canvases. It is his back cloth paintings that have developed a cult following with a long waiting list of potential collectors. These back cloths are the result of the overprints and seepage of the day to day printing of designs. Serendipity produces eye catching artworks.

Jeffrey Bilhuber

Jeffrey Bilhuber puts a contemporary spin on traditional design. Celebrity clients, television appearances, almost every major design magazine and a beautiful book, Bilhuber is inspiring in his designs.

Hotel Chelsea

"The building sits on 23rd Street with the air of a great dame who finds herself in the midst of a party of her social inferiors but instead of complaining decides to join right in the fun."

Andrew Martin

Andrew Martin, based out of London, has an incredible line of fabrics, not to mention furniture, home accessories and several books. I was in awe when I went through his diverse line of fabrics, and love that he uses images of rooms where the fabrics are used as opposed to simply displaying swatches.

Bedrooms

Escape from the hassles of the outside world. Retreat, cocoon. Are you a glitzy glam type, zen and serene or you own personal style? The bedroom is my favourite room of all.

Maarten Baas

Dutch designer Maarten Baas has quite the imagination. I was totally blown away when I saw his work. He is so talented and creative that Moooi adopted his Smoke designs and his furniture has been bought by museums and collectors such as Philippe Starck. Did I mention he is only 29 years old?

Ron Marvin

The thing that I love about Ron Marvin's work is that this look is so achievable. Ron worked for many years for American household names Gap, Williams-Sonoma, Pottery Barn, West Elm, Hold Everything, and Williams-Sonoma Home. He is now an interior designer practicing in New York. He has an excellent eye for the vignette and packs a lot of punch in a very small space. Watch the Small Space, Big Style video on his website to see his gorgeous 250 square feet New York apartment. Lots of ideas to steal here.
