This blog was started so that we could share our favourite inspirational design photos with you, and we would like to give you the opportunity to share yours with us as well. This is what we need you to do. We welcome links to great design sites or photos, but links are preferred so our inboxes don't fill up. If sending photos, please clearly state the name of your source whether magazine (and date if you have it), book (include author’s name and publisher) or website. Also please include your name so we can give you the credit, and a link to your site if you have one. The more information we have the more valuable this resource will become. There that was easy wasn’t it? Please remember that we cannot post if your photo is not adequately sourced. Now let’s have fun!

Flickr Find - marydeluxe53

marydeluxe53 clearly loves vintage 1950's decor. Her house is decorated top to bottom in fantastic retro 1950's finds. It is so damn cute.

What's the weather up to?

Poor Kim, poor northern hemisphere readers. This is what the weather is like here. OK I lie it's overcast today but it's normally like this.....

Black and white living rooms

I cannot begin to express how much I love black and white colour palettes. It is just so classic and modern, and easy to switch out accent colours if you tire of things easily like I do. So here are some photos of black and white living rooms.

Marion Hall Best

Regarded by many as the founder of Australian interior design, Marion Hall Best was the local arbiter of the latest style in the 60s. Her interiors showcased the best of what the world had to offer as well as providing a platform for promoting Australian design. In a post war world of "porridge" colours Marion is probably best known for her vivid glazed walls, colourful undercoats with contrasting translucent glazes; yellow over red, pink, black, blue or green producing intriguing tangerines, olives, aquamarines and chartreuses. Her Woollahra, Sydney shop became known internationally as an authoritative index of the latest modern trends in interior design. But perhaps her best work was in supporting promising young local talent including Gordon Andrews and Grant Featherston.

All images from "The Best Style. Marion Hall Best and Australian Interior Design 1935-1975" by Michaela Richards. These are original photos from the time and the quality is not the best but the design is first class.

So cold....so bloody cold

I just found this picture and had to laugh - and then had to post it. It seems everyone (except Jo and Anna, the aussies) has been suffering through horrible weather lately and after weeks of FREEZING cold temperatures up here, I thought this picture accurately portrayed how I feel (and look?? - this cow has more hair than I do FOR SURE).

Books

Many people collect books and often use standard Billy bookcases to store them. While it may be economical, it is not a very unique way to display them. I can admit that because guess where my books are housed? Here are some interesting ways to display them that don't necessarily involve our good friend Billy.

Mirrored furniture

Mirrored furniture is so glamourous. Not only can you see your fabulous reflection in it, but it adds sparkle to a room and is light in terms of visual weight. So have a look at these amazing pieces and why not go out and get yourself something mirrored like Pink Mohair did.

I like Pink

No this is not another post on pink rooms. This is a post for Pink, blogger extraordinaire of pink mohair and casapinka. She loves the g hotel, Galway Ireland, a Monogram Hotel designed by reknowned hat designer Philip Treacy, a native of Galway.

And Philip Treacy hats....yum!

Surfaces

Ingrid Cran, from Calgary emailed me with a question. "I have been searching for exterior, curb appeal, window ideas for updating fifties bungalows. Do you know of any good resources on the web?" I thought maybe some of you out there would have some links for Ingrid. I wasn't much help. Also, Ingrid works for a company called Surfaces that develops innovative art applications. She sent me some really cool photos so I had to plug her work at the same time. (Don't forget to post some links in the comments for her!)

Photographer Graham Atkins-Hughes

I stumbled upon photographer Graham Atkins-Hughes' portfolio recently and discovered some fantastic photos of interiors. The following is my favourite - I am sure the paint technique was done for the purposes of this photo but the more I look at this photo, the more I think this might actually work in the real world. You just better make sure you like the table and accessories!

Another apartment I really love

I can't quite put my finger on it but maybe it's the eclectic mix of pieces. The white on white with punches of colour. The Baroque and roll of 60s movies. Iain Halliday of Burton Katon Halliday, an award winning Australian design firm, has grown a little tired of hard edged design. Here's his interpretion of a "modern and traditional at the same time Italian interior" transplanted to the Sydney seaside.

Palm Springs - mid century wonderland

Jaime from Design Milk shared a link with me. OMG..... wait til you see Mid Century Real Estate where you're "buying a lifestyle not a home". I'm dreaming of moving to Palm Springs or maybe moving Palm Springs to Australia.

Panton S Chair

Here it is, probably my favourite chair EVER. I was thinking of getting two to put at each end of my dining table (as in the first photo). If you own one, send me a photo. I would love to see how you used it in your space.

Chairs

I love chairs - all styles, shapes, sizes, colours. I love their sculptural quality. I went through my photos and found a variety of different styles featured. I will be doing a post shortly on my favourite chair so stay tuned!

Coffee tables

Coffee tables seems to be a pretty popular topic these days. Jennifer Ramos sent us a link to her website featuring some of her unique coffee tables, like this one:

The guys at modern self emailed us about some great DIY projects such as this pendant light, this amazing paint finish and this coffee table as seen below:

Must also mention the FAB-U-LOUS coffee table recently purchased by Danielle of the style files.

OMG - Dolce and Gabbana

A few posts ago I featured the dining room of D&G's Portofino holiday pad. Now for the rest of this understated waterfront shack. And yes that's gold mosaic tile on the wall. Subtle. I can't wait to try this at home.

Wierd and wacky art

Much time was spent on Flickr in the past laughing over photos of rooms that had some pretty strange artwork. I thought it was about time Jo or I posted some wacky artwork. I found so many photos that there will definitively be more posts about this in the near future. So here's part 1:

The Queen of Hollywood Regency 1

Kelly Wearstler who else! I've been seduced by her finely curated take on contemporary luxury. With a nod to the legends of the past William Haines, Dorothy Draper, Billy Baldwin and Tony Duquette Kelly Wearstler is the West Coast's "style guru". She's everywhere from the leading interior design publications to Top Design. To hell with the hype! I can't get enough.
